Welwyn & Hatfield Case Study

Welwyn & Hatfield Council made the decision to replace all their ageing hardwired warden call equipment with Tynetec Sayphone dispersed units. These alarm units are more commonly seen in the home environment, usually free standing and connected to the user’s telephone line.

This became one of the largest warden call system projects ever carried out in the UK. The contract involved removing all the existing equipment and installing new hardwired pull cords, linked back to a wall mounted alarm unit in around 2,500 dwellings. The internal cabling had to be removed and replaced with new PVC trunking where loft spaces were not available. A high mounted fused spur also had to be wired back to the consumer unit. The Sayphone units had to be programmed to contact the Scheme Managers on their mobile phones and dial the control centre if unanswered.

Delta was given 6 months to complete the contract and a Clerk of Works assigned by Welwyn and Hatfield to oversee the works. The snagging process was very thorough and Delta came through with flying colours. When the contract was completed, the Clerk of Works said that Delta was by far the best contractor he had ever worked with.
